GTN is keeping you safe during COVID-19

Even with the changing conditions and restrictions in our region, Geelong Taxis are proud to be going above and beyond in the fight to keep Geelong passengers safe. Along with minimum sanitary requirements outlined by the Government to manage the pandemic, GTN are also adopting the below practices in hygiene and mandatory training for all of our taxis and drivers that are operating at this important time.

Passenger/Driver safety

• Face masks are required for all drivers and passengers
• Hand sanitiser and/or alcohol wipes are available for passenger use

Taxi Sanitising

• All taxis carry sanitiser, disinfectants and cleaning materials
• Touch surfaces are disinfected after each fare
• Taxi “deep clean” is carried out after each shift
• A register is maintained to record each clean
• All taxis are regularly inspected at GTN to ensure compliance (about 100 taxis every week!)

Driver Training

Core Training

Every new GTN driver must attend a three-day training course

Subjects covered include;

• Customer service
• Geelong geography
• Driver and passenger safety
• Regulations and network procedures

Gold Care Training

Extra training to provide service to passengers with special needs. Also includes additional geography covering locations commonly used by people with disability

Disabilities covered include;

• Intellectual
• Neurological
• Sensory
• Physical
• Elderly and frail

Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle training

Driver training and assessment in subjects such as;

• Loading and securing wheelchairs safely in the vehicle
• Smooth acceleration and braking
• Careful cornering
• Treatment of speed humps, roundabouts and rail crossings
• Passenger comfort
• Providing high level customer service to passengers with
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Muscular Dystrophy
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Motor Neurone Disease
  • Acquired Brain Injury
  • Paraplegia, quadriplegia and hemiplegia
  • Intellectual disability

Taxi Operator Training

This is mandatory training for all GTN taxi operators. It provides taxi owners with appropriate training in;

• Vehicle maintenance and cleaning programs
• Selecting a vehicle appropriate as a taxi
• Securing, training and supporting drivers in customer service
• Small business skills such as budgeting, forecasting, tax liabilities
• Laws and regulations affecting the taxi industry
• GTN owner policies and procedures
